I often drank milk before bed.
It is too early for bed.
He hopes to have a large bed.
He sat by the bed, watching TV.
另外,与介词in, into, out of等连用时,通常不用冠词。如:
I like reading in bed.
He got into bed quickly.
I woke up and got out of bed.
He goes to school every day.
He goes to the school every day.
She likes school.
She likes the school.
Church begins at 11 o’clock. 11
The school is just past the church.
He goes to the prison sometimes to give lectures.
He says he’d rather go to prison than pay the fine.
如“住院”在英国英语中通常说成 in hospital,而在美国英语中则通常说成in the hospital;类似的还有go to university (英)上大学 / go to the university (美)上大学;at table (英)在吃饭 / at the table (美)在吃饭。
Let’s meet on Monday.
I shall return on Thursday unless something unexpected happens.
His birthday falls on a Tuesday.
She was born on a Tuesday in May.
This happened on Friday.
This happened on a Friday.
We had a card from her on the Friday after she got back.
“When can I have my birthday party?”“On the Saturday nearest to it.”“我的生日庆祝会能在哪天举行?”“在离你生日最近的那个星期六吧。”
We’re spending August at the seaside.
December is the last month of the year.
We’ve had to put our wedding off until September.
It’s been a very wet June.
It happened in the April of 1996.
