听力考试具有极强的时间效应,听力过程不具备复制性,考生必须学会掌握一定的听力技巧,充分利用宝贵的每一分钟。首先，必须了解高考英语听力的特点。
　　1.语速特点：听力部分的朗读速度约为每分钟42～45个单词，低于或相当于高中英语教学大纲中规定的语速。
　　2.语音特点：在高考英语的考试说明中，并没有对听力部分的语音做出任何规定。这两年高考英语听力试题一般都是英音。但是语言学习一定要体现出其真实性、交际性和实用性。所以，以后的听力部分肯定也会出现美音，澳大利亚式英语发音，甚至还会有背景音。
　　3.内容特点：来源于生活，体现生活，和我们日常生活有密切联系。具体涉及到的话题有：问路，购物，助人，询问时间，问候，新闻，约会，打电话，等等。话题的内容基本上都是在教学大纲规定的高中生英语知识与能力要求的范围内。
　　4.试题特点：
　　(1)要求考生对特定情景中的对话或独白的整体输入和理解。
　　例1，(2000年高考英语听力测试第一节第三段对话)
　　M：Well，I’d better be going home now.It’s been great seeing you again.
　　W：Oh，it was nice seeing you，too.
　　Q：What are the two speakers doing?
　　A.Enjoying meeting each other.
　　B.Saying good-bay to each other
　　C.Planning to see each other.
　　这是一组非常简单的对话，但是如果考生没注意到第一个人所讲的I’d better be going home now.和第二个人讲的：it was nice seeing you again.中的was的话，就有可能会选择A选项。
　　(2)要求考生对特定情景中表达的信息有效的输入和准确的理解。
　　例2(2000年高考英语听力测试第一节第二段对话)
　　M：I’m afraid we’ll miss the train.What time is it now?
　　W：It’s 6：15.There are 10minutes left.Let’s hurry.
　　Q：What time does the train leave?
　　A：At 6：15B：At 6：25C：At 6：50
　　如果考生只是注意到It’s6：15，而没注意到There are 10minutes left以及问的是“火车几点钟开”的话，便会选A。
　　(3)考查考生同时存贮和加工多条信息的能力
　　听力测试的第二部分是四段长对话和一段独白，长对话不是一人一句，而有可能一人讲数句话。
　　例3(2000年高考英语听力测试第二节第7段对话)
　　W：Excuse me.How can I get to the station please?
　　M：The station，the station，let me see，yes.You can go down...no.Go straight on until you come to a cinema.Let’s see now—that’s the second turning on your right.The cinema’s on the corner.Turn right at the cinema and you’ll be in Bridge Street.I think it’s Bridge Street.Go a long Bridge Street for a few minutes and then take the second—no，not the second，the first，that’s right，the first turning on your left.The station is straight ahead，right in front of you.

　　A.On the corner of Bridge Street
