作为副词，double通常用在动词后面。
Fold the blanket double and lay it on a chair.
把毯子对折起来放在椅子上。
The big boy had to bend double to hide under the table.
那个大男孩须弓着身子才能藏身于桌子底下。
You two little girls can sleep double tonight.
你们两个小女孩今晚可合睡一张床。
This room is double (=twice) as large as that one.
这个房间是那个房间的两倍大。 （或……比那个房间大一倍。）
作为名词，double用在定冠词后，接介词of。
I was paid the double of this amount. [在这一句式中by them通常省略]
他们付给我的报酬是这个数目的两倍。
注：
上列例句在现代英语中不如“I was paid double this amount.” 来得普遍。[double 用作限定词]
在当今流行的英语中，这一结构中的the往往省略，of 便改用for，如：
He is paid double for doing the same job that I do.
他与我做同样的工作，但报酬却比我多一倍。
